That said, Hollywood will almost inevitably balls it up because everyone involved will have knowledge of the series limited to a 30 second flick through a comic book and a ten minute bash on a 10-year-old imported SNES split-screen beat-em-up.

Fully agree, but I doubt a live action DBZ will do anything to change peoples perceptions of it.

Somehow i doubt it. "Streetfighter" anyone?
Of course, it was a Japanese movie, but that's the only way you'll get the actors to adopt the DBZ crazy hair concept. Americans just won't go there.
