Um.. That's a little rough! You think, "Hey! I could die from this and not know I'm allergic to it!".. but apparently, these people perform all sorts of tests on you before you take part. A human lab rat. Wow!
Was something like £400 just to pop a few pills for a few weeks, then give like a bunch of blood....

Because we've got free will - no-one forcing them to sign up. (well, they may be. But I doubt it).
And if the drugs or whatever works, then they'll probably work on all humans.
Plus you get to feel like you're in some cheesy Manga movie and being secretly experimented on by the government. And stuff.

Anything from £100 to £1000 a day, apparently. But one day's hours are something like 7:30am to 9pm, so wouldn't be suprised. Giving up your whole day's time to do something possibly deathly!!
If they're stupid enough to do it, when shouldn't they put through excruciating pain?
