Saw some of his books for sale in Fopp, £3 each. I fancy getting one, but currently in the middle of a John Grisham book.

Which one do you recommend for starting with? They aren't in a series are they, just individual novels?

no, my waterstones is a smaller more homely affair, with books packed in up to the rafters. a place of tranquility and quiet contemplation.

no coffee though

Waterstones are great. But then maybe your local one doesn't have a coffee shop. Or an escalator that you spent 5 minutes trying to step onto, blind, whilst carrying a Marshall amplifier. Oh memories.

nah, never heard of it - although me being lazy I buy all my books from amazon, and get my pants pulled down over the p&p.

I suppose I should make the effort and visit the local waterstones, but they're a jip too.

Fopp is a record shop that also sells some books with two branches in Glasgow, one on Byres Road near the uni, where I saw them and another branch in the city centre. Don't know if they have any other branches anywhere else though.

Great prices, loads of £5 and £7 CDs and loads of DVDs at £7. And books at £3 as you've gathered.

None that I have read have been part of a series, no.
The three main I'd recommend are

A Scanner Darkly
Ubik
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

If you like short stories, the one with Minority Report on the front cover is a good one.
