A while ago a brought a copy of Hidden and Dangerous, a fine a game by anyone’s standards.

After playing the game for about 5 minutes the game ‘Hung’. So I phone the tech support people and told them the problem they told me to download the latest patch, which I did. And did this fix the problem….I think not I tried the usual uninstall reinstall, DX-Diag, Graphic card drivers de-frag scan disk all to no avail.
Any way after trying all of this they tech support told me that there yet another patch available 1.2 and that did not work. And so it went on for a bout a 2 months downloading the latest patch I got to 1.4 then I gave up I asked for my money back.

My point is do you think that Manufactures should take a little longer to make the games work properly on our PC’s or are you all happy getting hold of the game as soon as possible?

Bear in mind I hear that some of the latest downloads for game patches can be as big as 33MB.

To tell you the truth i would rather wait a few more weeks for the game to be completed fully rather than have it released early and then having to download loads of different patches for different versions of the game. Some of the downloads are easy enough as there is only one patch to download, but it's the WebPages that you go to and there are loads of different types of patches. Some for version 1.0, some for Windows 98' some if you computer is powered by a monkey in a wheel and so forth.
And as mentioned below some of the patches can be 30MB or above in size witch makes downloading the patch time consuming as well as expensive for those people who don't have free internet access, and not forgetting those people who do not have access to the internet at all and are therefore unable to downlaod these patches.
I think it is the job the game manufacture's to test the game on a number of machine types with different spec's to see if the game works. If it doesn't then the game should either be fixed or a patch should be included with the game. I know it's not possible to test the game or product on every type of computer but a wide selection of computers would be better than nothing. After all we, the consumers, are paying for games that we expect to work on our machines with little trouble as possible.
