Everyone hates spam, granted, but something in particular just strikes me as stupid. An example is in order…

Using my mail program, I automatically filter out any message with the word “Viagra” in the subject heading. Now, Mail Washer takes care of most of the spam for me, but the odd one creeps past and finds its way through to the mail programs filters, which the “clever” spammers get round by writing V - ! – 4 – G – R – 4 FOR $4le!!!1. Now, the only reason for that is to get past getting automatically filtered out by the millions of people who’ve put “Viagra” as an automatic deletion word, so you do obviously not want any. What do the spammers think will happen? You’ll purchase some as a reward for getting round the filter?

The really stupid thing is, the subject heading stands out as obvious spam that’s deleted without opening.

Mostly, spam doesn’t bother me as there’s software to filter it out without me having to worry. However, really stupid people, they bother me, and they also seem to send most of the spam.

Filtering is largly pointless, that's why I use Mail Washer, which is far more effetive. However, the filters never got removed.

So, odd one gets through and it just stuck me what other buisness men (as I guess that's what they are) would specifically target people who've gone to effort to avoid their wares?

It doesn't take any mental gymnastics to beat a spam filter that way, so it's still the case that if even one person who would otherwise not have seen the e-mail then goes on to buy their junk, it's been worth it.

Sadly, I think the only way to stop spam is to make it not be worth it - something from charging per e-mail recipient, forcing the sender to go through a confirmation messeage for each recipient, or one electric shock for each person you send to.

And it'd be pretty difficult to enforce any of those.

Or there could just be some international law making spam illegal. It's not rocket science to trace it.

Filter out all emails not coming from hotmail.com, msn.com, aol.com, specialreserve.net and any sites you receive stuff from ie member sites like linkinpark.com etc.
