After the fiasco with the pre-ordering campaign and the launch line-up, the PS2 has finally arrived in the shops en-mass along with the promise of the great games in development. GT3 is to be released soon as well as Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy X and the Getaway later in the year. This kind of software alone ensures the future of Sonys black box. Along with that, Sega have crashed out of the console competition and decided to team up with the PS2. Soon, all of the favourite Sega games, such as Crazy Taxi will be on a PS2 near you.
You may well think, 'oh, he's just been taken in by the hype the fool', and you'd be correct. But at least the hype has been justified! I have no regrets about my recent purchase and am currently enjoying DVD movies from the comfort of my bed along with the odd SSX session. The only down side to my love in the PS2 is the financial aspects. Games and peripherals are quite expensive, but a good investment if you ask me. The price tag slapped on the PS2 may have been seen as too big, but I personally think it was a bargain. The top of the range games console and a DVD player all in one for £300 is not bad in my books.
Sure, the PS2 will face serious competition from the X-box and Gamecube, but by the time they are finally released the PS2 will have millions of devoted fans world-wide. Don't get me wrong, I think that the N64, Sega Dreamcast and PSone are great games systems, but play the PS2 once and you'll never go back!
(Please note: I am open to any criticisms)

Think of the games that are coming out, Ring of Red should be here soon, GT3 isn't THAT far away. Hey, Playstation may be showing signs of a Nintendo 64 launch but regardless, they have got time to get into position, the next competitor to hit the scene won't be around until say Christmas in the UK. They have got/had time to rethink their market strategy and now they are set they can re-launch, if you will, the Playstation 2 for christmas. They can even look at a £200 - £250 price figure to compete with the Gamecube.
Price and potential games and a good launch are what might give the Cube the edge, Sony have time, you lot just need to hope they use it properly!
