It would be much better if consoles would do the same. I know that the PS2 will be backwards compatible with PS1 games but it can't run Dreamcast games.
For example if I had a Dolphin and my friend had a Playstation 2, I could go round his house with my games and play them on his PS2 and he could do the same with his games and my Dolphin. This would make it a lot easier for the public to choose which console to buy, because they would not need to look at how many games it had but what else the console can do. However this idea may require the console companys to co-operate a bit so.......
Why bother paying the extra money to be able to play all your games in one machine when all you need do instead is get a plug extension cable to let you plug both in, or reach behind the tv to get to the socket and change them over when needed.
Really, the only ones buying the console needing the feature would be those without an N64 who wanted to play the games, and while making PS's extensive libary open to PS2 owners is useful for everyone, the N64's limited libary of games doesn't warrant the hardware for a cart drive as well as DVD.
