I have WinDVD 2000, then I tried a third DVD " the Hurriane" but the same thing happened again. I thought its a software problem and phoned the helpline ...they said they don't know about it. Tried to install PowerDVD , but it says no DVD is inserted. I believe its a hardware problem but the help line ppl said as long as its playing the 1st DVD its defenetly NOT a hardware problem.
Then what happened my friend told me about something he had seen in UK DOG WATCH on BBC1.. that some of the new DVD's are not playable by the old hardware..but then i thought the PC is always upgradable and configurable so there must be a way to solve this problem. Putting in mind the DVD's played fine in a MESH computer with a Pioneer DVD " can't remember which model".
PLEASE HELP ME :-( ... IF ITS A HARDWARE PROBLEM I CAN ALWAYS GET MY PC FIXED AS IT HAS WARRENTY AND EVERYTHING.
The latest news is that the help line asked me to install this IDE controller update from my motherboard manufacturer hoping this will sort the problem out,but ain't nothing changed. So I think they will send an Engineer to replace the drive on Friday hoping this will ork out, which i think won't. ANYWAY IF THERE IS SOME ONE OUT THERE WHO KNOWS ABOUT THIS OR HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM PLEASE :

I'm not too clued up on PC DVD film playing but, as some people here can testify, I know my stuff when it comes to DVDs in general. They are WRONG when they say this - the hardware can be faulty in this situation but I don't think yours will be. Read on...
Before DVDs were unleashed on the public a set of standards were devised which all DVD players must comply to. Some cheaper players cut cornders and just (barely) met these standards in order to release a cheaper product. There are also some discs which bend the rules a bit and it's when these get together that problems arise. Some discs bend the rules so much that even perfectly good players go a bit wrong (usually only on extra discs, like Toy Story Disc 3).
The Watchdog article is just highlighting this problem.
I find it very unlikely that Toshiba would be one of these manufacturere as they produce some of the best players around. However the problem will probably be in the software your player s running and it's here that I'm going to have to let someone else who, perhaps, uses their PC for DVD to help you. All I can say is that you can be almost certain that the problem is not the hardware - but not for the reason the helpline gave, they're talking rubbish.
I once rang a helpline and asked them how to uninstall Windows, in order to reinstall it. They told me to go into MS-DOS and type 'del windows'. Honest. Needless to say, this is not what you do.
