Read this then; it's about the US and immigrants but it's completely relevant to the UK.

In America the bottom line is this:
Legal immigrants are net contributors to the economy.
Illegal immigrants are not contributors directly, but they keep the textile and building industries etc competitive and that, overall contributes.
That is what US government studies have repeatedly found.
It has also been found that immigrants are more productive than actual Americans. Big surprise. But then it is understandable considering most people in the states earn at least $5 per hour, which is often the daily wage in Mexico.
America was built on immigrants. If more care was taken in Britain then many immigrants could contribute to society too.
There are several industries that have skills shortages. I live in Glasgow, which has 1000's of asylum seekers from all over the world. One guy I spoke to was a doctor in Iran. Brilliant, almost perfect English.
What happens? Well the last I knew he was still waiting on a decision on whether he could stay or not. 2 years after arriving. He could have contributed, and helped the NHS at the same time. And giving him a flat in a bad area, and giving him food tokens instead of cash, well that is just brilliant. Show him the worst bits of the city, humiliate him, and pay for it all at the same time.
But hey. Once again Mr Joe Public is up in arms about immigrants. Just because they feel threatened, that they might have to work a bit harder and not get their given right to live in the lap of luxury.
It's been said many times.
Imigrants don't take our jobs, they do the awful jobs that we wouldn't touch with a barge pole so that without them, they just wouldn't get done.
Hehe.
I'm saving that link away.....

No, but a number of immigrants have been busted for it, and it was revealed that they had Beemers, mobiles and jewellery. Not saying ALL immigrants, but some have done it, some are still doing it.
