Baffling once again. How the heck do they actually work these out?

England: win their group for Euro 2004 by drawing in Turkey, and beat Turkey comfortably. Lost to Denmark who are ranked a respectable 13 (14) and we move down.

Yet Turkey, who lost to us and failed to beat us in their own stadium, forced to go into the play-offs and even lose to Latvia, ranked a lowly 56 (and were 69th) and they move ahead of us in the rankings?!

And how come the Netherlands are still so high up? They also failed to win their group and lost to lowly Scotland, and yet they're also still ranked higher. And they didn't even qualify for the last World Cup yet are still ranked so high up.

It reminds me of the seedings for the last World Cup; England won their group and thrashed Germany 5-1, yet they were seeded and we weren't. Crazy statistics.

Turkey did still come second in our group though, and were ahead for the majority of the last year - until we came head-to-head.
That's gotta be worth somethin' to them?

And have the qualifier's results actually been added to teams' totals yet?
Perhaps the Latvia one is irrelevant because it was played too late?

Of course, I know we shouldn't be ranked above certain teams, but we qualifyed ahead of Turkey, maybe not spectacularly, but we beat them, drew in their patch and won the group.
We lose to Denmark (an ok-ish team) and they lose to Latvia (a load of Baltic sheep farmers) and they move ahead of us. Just doesn't seem right.

Though in view of last nights fantastic result, Turkey will drop down.

But, is it maybe not just a case of "teams above us moving up"?

Sure, we finished top of our group and all that, but we were hardly "outstading" in any-one of those games, were we. Honestly, we weren't! Especially when we played teams like Liechtenstein; when we were lucky to scrape-through by the odd-goal, and Sol Campbell showed us all why Man United were right to 'allow' Arsénal agree to the ``Tottenham Fan's´´ rediculous wage demands, rather than try to match or beat it.

We are good, but not that good. Don't start getting on your high-horse yet! Just because everyone else is, doesn't mean you HAVE to. We're only "above-average" - nowhere near the scale of a team like Brazil or France. And just look at how easy our group was, really...

Mexico are actually a really good team. 5th, maybe not, but in the top 10, yes.

Great idea, but I'd drop the USA to around 15th.
