True, they won't NEED to be optimised, but they certainly could be - not that it'd make much difference though. I too have been playing Genesis Roms on KGen and DGen for some time, but neither those or any other emulators were perfect.

I wouldn't worry about broadband - cartridges never held significant amounts a data. I'd imagine most Mega Drive games will be around the 16 MB mark.

I doubt they will need to be optimised. I was playing emulated Megadrive / Snes / Nintendo 8 bit roms at least a couple of years ago with , and you could actually run them faster than the original. Still, an official emulator will make for a more stable platform (some later games ran with bugs)
