I’ll say them both briefly so you don’t have to read on in detail if you don’t know
or don’t care :(
1. I cant get DTS sound to play on my DTS receiver, only Dolby digital.
2. If you connect your video to your receiver using AUX leads, how will this play a film with dolby digital? Normal stereo?
1. I have an Audio/Video receiver with Dolby Digital, DTS sound and more.
Ive got 2 front speakers, 2 rear, 1 centre and a sub.
When I play Gladiator, (A DVD with DTS sound) it won’t play it on the DTS setting. The receiver automatically selects Dolby Digital, this works fine, (and sounds FINE) but it cant see the DTS setting. Im playing it through a PS2 using an optical cable, and have tried turning off the Dolby Digital output on the PS2 and only having DTS output turned to ‘yes’ but DTS mode still wont play anything. I think its something im doing wrong with the receiver. Anyone have any ideas??? Im completely out of them. :)
2. I was wondering recently, when watching Saving Private Ryan on video (which on the back of the box has the dolby digital logo ) if im connecting it using AUX leads, then is it playing true dolby digital? What I mean is, I set the receiver to VCR, and press surround mode, and sound will come out of all 5 speakers, but the display is still saying ‘analog’, not 'digital'. My VCR doesn’t have a digital output (do any? My vid's only a year old) so how would a receiver know whether its playing a film in ordinary stereo, or a video that plays in dolby digital? The sound still sounded really good, but I was just wondering, while my head was already spinning from my other problem with DVD.
I hope these both make sense, cause its hard trying to write it down in a way that someone else will understand having not seen my exact set up. (although it’s a pretty standard one) :)
When i play gladiator, my receiver automatically selects dolby digital, as ive turned that option 'on' on the dvd player, but, when i turn 'DTS' to on, my receiver wont select dts, so when i change the receiver to DTS by hand there is no sound as it cant detect a DTS signal. I 'think' thats why theres no sound. Anyway, im just hoping someone out there has had similar probs and has sorted them out :)
I have to do this with a few of my titles on my DVD player, I have Gladiator, but can't quite remember if you have to select it from the disc, so cycle through the menus and see if the option exists :)
