Have you noticed in recent years that the soundtrack albums of some Hollywood blockbusters feature songs that aren't even in the film? On the album it says something along the lines of "Featuring songs from and inspired by the motion picture......."

Personally, I think that this is a bit daft. Surely you only buy a soundtrack album if you like the music used in the film?

Another situation is when theres a song on the film, but it isn't on the album. This can be pretty frustrating. A couple of examples of this are on the Lost Boys album 'Walk This Way' isn't on the album, but it plays in the film during one of the vampire attacks.

Also at the end of A Life Less Ordinary, Oasis 'Round Are Way' plays, but isn't on the album. How odd!

On a slighty different topic, should films use big artists to record a song for the film, unsure if what they get will suit, or should they pick existing tunes that they think will fit in with a particular scene?

I know that Quinten Tarentino doesn't like to have songs written specifically for his film, cause he might not get exactly what he wants. In Pulp Fiction Urge Overkill's 'Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon' is used and it fits perfectly, IMHO. It wasn't specifically written for the scene, it was just something QT had heard, and thought it would work.

What do you prefer, getting some rock legends to write a song, or digging out something existing?

If there was ever a movie to promote a soundtrack it would have to be Snatch. It has a great soundtrack with all tunes featured during the film. you have to check it out.

Its always been like that...

I've got Movie Soundtracks from the 70's & early 80's that are excatly the same...

A lot of music is brought for a move... but may not make it to the final cut...
