Yeah, but that never stopped them from building the A-Bomb did it?

Well, creating a virus, and creating a virus DNA mapped to cause extremely specific forms of harm are two very different things. Also, you can bet that for every team employed to create a weapon, there is one employed to create a cure.

Personally, I think it's very dangerous to play with such technology in those terms, as the potential for bringing about our own demise is very real.

The British Medical association warned in 1999 that such a thing would be possible within 10 years, maybe faster. Plus if the technology is being looked at in the West, then who is to say who else is also pursuing the same thing ? A weapon of mass destruction of this nature would be of incalculable value to certain groups and nations because it makes such a weapon viable.

Oh, at the time I was thinking maybe we could create a virus which would be able to infect some merely based on their DNA, in which race plays a large role in. But now I've noticed how ridiculous that sounds.

Yeah, obviously the US Govt. will have seen the potential uses of this and, like me, may have come up with some bizarre ideas such as using it as a biological weapon in the far future. Though sounding far fetched, now that they have used DNA to make a virus, surely it's only a matter of time before they can mutate the virus to one that can infect humans? Oh, the possibilities.

Agree with FM on this. Nothingto do with ethnic cleansing at all, but a significant step forward if handled correctly and not used by those with a military motive for creating weapons.

More like the origins of a new energy source. I fail to see what the development of an artificial virus has to do with the origins of ethnic cleansing, which surely are based on a tribal mentality?
