This might be old news to some - but others may find it useful :¬)

www.tvcatchup.com is a free site allowing you to stream most 'normal' UK TV stations - "over 30 channels".

The quality seems pretty good and I believe the bandwidth used is less than that of iPlayer.

Even though by it's name you would think that it's a 'catchup' service it isn't at the moment (I think they had some legal issues with that) - it just allows you to watch live TV.

FWIW I'm only using the streaming version not the downloadable Desktop Player.

Some ISPs haven't signed up with them (Freeola is fine) but you can get round this by registering at a friends house or by using a web proxy! ;¬)

Can be useful when you need to catch a program.
I found that during Wimbledon it performed better than the BBC's live stream that was probably swamped.

I assumed it would be considering how legitimate it looks. No one would spend that much effort on something that is clearly going to be taken down.

Always nice to check though (I could not be bothered to look myself :P)

Cheers for the link, I certainly didn't know about it.

FAQ link

"Is TVCatchup legal?
Yes. TVCatchup is fully compliant with the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988"

"How does TVCatchup work?
In simple terms, we have multiple TV servers each connected to a channel. Our TV servers publish the stream in H.264 codec directly to you via our web server and HD FLV flash player."

NB. You still need a TV licence!

I think they just use it as a portal to the content on the other sites, but I'm not 100% sure.

Unrivalled services
Freeola has to be one of, if not the best, ISP around as the services they offer seem unrivalled.
The coolest ISP ever!
In my opinion, the ISP is the best I have ever used. They guarantee 'first time connection - everytime', which they have never let me down on.
