Dilted of course, not being a careless and somewhat ironic spelling mistake, but being the ancient Anglo-Romani form of the modern word 'diluted', and originally descending from the latin 'diltum', meaning 'damp'.

It reminds me of the very early days of these forums. Back then, believe it or not, the literate and intelligent posters outnumbered the rest.

Newbies would come along. Some would fit in nicely, and whilst others would have references, jokes, and suchlike pass over their heads without even knowing about it. They weren't insulted, just perhaps treated a little like a monkey you want to teach tricks to.

Gradually they became more numerous, to the point where the average intelligence of the forums was dilted to the equivalent of a kindergarden.

The majority hold the sway of power, so now any intelligent jokes or subtleties will go, by and large, almost completely unnoticed. That's true for the general chat forum, at least. Sadly, we also see otherwise intelligent posters starting to take people at face value, and looking no further.

There's way too much love in this room.
