Would appreciate any info any of you lot can give on this topic.

you know on forums, web blogs etc where multiple users can post comments etc. Well some give info like who is online, who is viewing the pages, when posts are made throughout the day etc.

Firstly I guess there are many ways to do this, anyone know any?

Secondly what other ways are there off detecting users on online communities like this. Visual indicators etc.

I have a project to do at uni and first thing I have to do is to find out the various ways of detecting users in online communities and the different ways that this information is used.


Couldn't think of a title that covered it all :-)

Also, to get the Hacks working, you can either edit the phpBB files yourself which takes a long, long time!
Or you can download a program which you can install on your forum called EasyMod, which will install them for you, provided you have uploaded these Hacks to the specific folder.

Hope that made sense.. a little hard to explain things today.. and surely am way off topic! :s

If you're on about phpBB forums, then the things they use to show peoples' gender, age, forums they're viewing, etc.. They're called Hacks/Mods.
