Just emailed an Immigration specialist solicitor to offer to do some voluntary work to prepare immigrants cases! Hopefully I'll get to put my legal training to some good use for something that I actually believe in. Being as how Legal Aid rules now ban a solicitor from spending any more than 5 hours on an immigration case, I would hope that they can at least find something for me to do. Just as long as they don't enquire too closely about why I got kicked out of the Law Society in the first place...

Erm...because I was, and I'll quote the letter they sent, "Rebellious and Unstable...not of the right personality type to be a member of the legal profession".
In other words, I made my mouth go a little too much about the politics of some of the more obnoxious solicitors (ie. my then boss), had to resign, and then got investigated by the Law Society.
