The FA has today charged Rio Ferdinand with misconduct for a breach of FA Rule E26, with reference to Regulation 1(c) of The FA Doping Control Regulations...

Regulation 1(c) refers to "the failure or refusal by a player to submit to drug testing as required by a competent official".

The charge relates to the selection of Rio Ferdinand to submit to out-of-competition testing on 23 September 2003 as part of The FA's Doping Control Programme.

Rio Ferdinand has 14 days to respond to the charge.

Note: FA Rule E26 states that: "A Participant shall comply with the provisions of any doping control regulations as shall be in force from time to time as determined by the Council."

Looks like it could be a long ban then. Wes Brown should be back soon though and Fortune looks okay as left back allowing O'shea to play in the middle.

Now, this is just a prime-example of why the FA are so pathetic...!

The whole thing happens on September 21st, right. So, instead of giving us a verdict on what they're gonna do so week-or-two after it, they just keep putting it off.

Each week it's been something different; how they're going to decide on something "next Tuesday" - and then it's "next Thursday" when that day finally comes around, and so-on....

But, this week, we FINALLY got an answer from them - over a whole MONTH after the whole thing happened!! :o
(And this is supposed to be something that's take its toll on Sport in general - very well handled, FA! So efficient, too!! :P)

And so, what do they say... That they're only gonna hand him a "misconduct charge" - after all these weeks of waiting; all the moans-and-groans we've heard from all over the country; this is what they tell us - something we already know!!

Of course you're gonna charge him with misconduct!!!
What else are you supposed to do - just let him walk-away with nothing?!?!? (Well, you seem to do that quite a lot, anyway!)

What we were all expecting to here was the actual punishment itself. HOW he will be punished. HOW MUCH he will be fined. The LENGTH of his inevitable ban.... But it takes them all this time to decide they're gonna punish him for misconduct - something that could've EASILY been decided on well-within 2 days!!

I think it'll probably end up in a huge fine, and a 5-game ban for Rio.

I'm not sure he'll get banned because there's one very important word missing from that regulation that's been put before him which is 'Wilfully' (sp?) Might just be a big fine, which i hope it is as we've got enough injury troubles at the moment without having our most expensive signing put out the game for up to 2 years just because he forgot about it and the drug testers couldn't be bothered to wait for him to come back.
