Can anyone tell me what this is and is there any way of changing this.
I am not too computor literate so hopefully any replies will be easy to understand.
The PC has a Pentium 3 processor and is running windows 98
And if you are not to good at were things go inside the computer then inserting a new floppy drive is easy, just give it a go yourself or get a mate to do it.
It's not worth taking it to the shop just to put a new floppy drive in.
Rip it out, throw it away and buy a new one. Good ones can be found for £15-ish. Or, if like me you prefer not to use such outdated technology then invest in a portable drive such as the Sony Microvault from eBuyer, which stores 124MB of your lovely data. It also has passowrd protect and PC lock features. Copy and paste this link to buy dude:

There are 3 spaces in the link.
I see that they've knocked the price down substantially since my purchase (only a few days ago) by £8. If you prefer not to buy from such treacherous swines, then buy from someone more close, like the home of this website, Special Reserve. This should suit your documents nicely:

Only the one space there.
I even typed in a few lines in a word document and clicked to save it in the floppy disk but again the little window popped up saying the disk I was trying to save to was write-protected.
I moved the little tab on all the floppies but to no avail.
I am completely stumped at this stage.
This should test the experts!
And Armitage, why the name change?
I tried moving the little tab but I am still getting the same mesage. The actual message reads as follows: "Cannot copy ??????(name of word document): The disk is write-protected. Remove the write-protection or use another disk" I have tried about 5 different floppy disks (2 different brands) with the tab in the locked and unlocked position but it won't work.
What is happening is I have copied word documents from my own PC on to a floppy disk. I have then taken the floppy disk and put it into the kids PC (The one I bought recently). I can copy from the floppy to the kids PC without any problems but when the kids wanted to print a word document I told them to copy it to a floppy and take it down to my PC and print it. This is where the problem is occuring. As stated the word documents cannot be copied from their PC to a floppy disk.
Would the problem be related to their C drive? The reason I ask this is because their PC was bought from a large US company who deal with medical claims (the company were upgrading their PC's and sold off the old lot to their staff at a ridiciously low price and as my eldest son works there I got a good bargain). Would it be posible that, for security reasons, the PC's were set so as the staff could not copy any details to a floppy disk?
Sorry this is a bit long winded but I wanted to let you have all the background information.
Thank you for taking an interest in this problem and I look forward to your help and comments
> 4.Switch it down (or up) but i think that down turns write protect

yeah, thats right... if theres a little hole, its write-protected... if the plastic dooda-thingie blocking the hole, then its write-enabled
1.Get floppy disk in hand
2.Look on the back of the floppy at either the top right or left
3.you will see like a little black sliding thing
4.Switch it down (or up) but i think that down turns write protect off.
5.Put it back into your computer.
6.Try coppying you word documents accross to the floppy.
7.Have a beer and thank me :P
Or if all that fails then you probably just need a new floppy disk.
It's like a little black sliding thing on either the top left or right of the floppy, just flip it up or down, one of them will work.
If not just say and ill come up with some more answers.
