Has anyone got an opinion on whether a UK PS2 will work in the US ?

Specifically can the UK PS2 be used on a US NTSC TV? Are they any power supply issues (apart from getting a suitable US power supply); Any details on playing US DVD's and US PS2 on a UK PS2 ? (Region 1/2 issues and any way to get around them)

Thanks in advance

Thanks Freemz

So you've established there shouldn't be any power issues in the US, and I'm happy to import UK games/dvds until a chip arrives. SO are there any decent UK modchips sites out there ? What do you all think of Chipszone.com ?

And I've read that I need to use a component cable to connect to the tv's in the states. But if there anything like tv's over here there you can get tv's with standard aerial connectors or phono connectors or scart ! Any issues you can see? Monster Cables do a cable but its expensive, can I not use my UK scart ?

The reason for all of this is I'm only in the US for a year months so I didn't see the point in getting a US PS2 long term.

Thanks again

A uk ps2s should work in the U.S. There should be no power supply problems as most PSone/PS2 consoles have an alternating supply which can run at most voltages.
I have an old grey playstation, Japanese White VCD playstation and a PS2. All of the power supplys can work in the U.S. But of course U.S games and DVDS cannot function on a UK/PAL PS2.
With the DVD region issues, there is a chip being tested which will allow UK/PAL Ps2s to become multi-region.

Will post site when available.

Not only that, you can buy a PS2 in the US for the very reasonable price of £160. Sell yours for £250 and you still have enough for 3 games (they're £25 - £30 over there), as well as that, they have a huge number of titles available copmpared to the 20 odd (just a guess) that we have here!?!

I don't think a UK PS2 will work on a US NTSC TV, simply because our display has more lines. There may be signal converters available, but I'm not sure - and anyway, you will lose picture clarity.

The DVD issue is similar - your UK PS2 is locked to playing UK DVD's (region 2) only - so you can forget playing US DVD's (region 1) until such time as someone come up with a way of getting round it.

Are you moving to the US, or going on holiday? If you're moving, you'd probably be better off selling your UK PS2 and buying an US model when you get there.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
