More than likely it is. In Afghanistan coalition planes opened fire on numerous wedding parties when the planes came under fire from wedding guests firing into the air. When you consider the speed aircraft do, it only takes one bullet in the wrong place to cause massive damage to the plane. There have been cases of passenger aircraft being downed by collisions with small birds, and it only took a small piece of debris to fatally damage the Concorde in France a few years ago.
