I bought a widescreen TV because I was sick of borders on DVD & VHS.
So now we have movies up to 2.40:1 on DVD, giving borders even on a widescreen telly, leaving about a quarter of the screen unused.
Just how bloody wide does an image have to be?
There's seldom anything worth seeing at the edge of the screen anyway, so why not crop to 1.85:1 for a DVD release?
At this rate we'll end up with TV's six feet wide and 2 pixels high.

That's one of the funniest things I've ever read on these forums!

Do you know how to work the widescreen telly? You only want to stretch pictures that have been specially condensed (like widescreen F-Zero, or anamorphic DVDs) so you don't have any loss of clarity. If you stretch a regular TV picture then that's stupid.
You should of spent the money buying a widescreen on something else! Like.. er.. something
I hate the way the screens stretch the image and leave you with a picture which is not as sharp as it would be on a smaller screen size.
Thats why I use my GameCube on my TV up here instead of the widescreen downstairs.

Nice idea, but then very few come in an alternative fullscreen version. Usually only Disney videos and cheap films that you've never heard of.
As for missing quite a bit of the picture... true, but do you miss anything important? Not really.

You miss quite a bit of the picture.
