Is the Anti-X-Box feeling created because people dont like the corporate image of Microsoft and the personal image of Bill Gates?

Admittedly, if the machine was being released by a newer company, the consoles wouldnt be given that much thought (Indreamaesq)...

Howeer, if the X-Box was being released by another company, would t be a more attractive propersition?

As an example, I'm loathe to say Sega, since they already have a fair following, and a great deal of respect within the gameing community... equally another general electronics company like Panasonic would probably put the X-Box in the IOndreamer catagory...

In fact it would seem if there was to be a new major contenter into the market that Microsoft is one of the few company able to do it?...

... However despite the mess of this mailing, the Shanks encasulated questions are...

Would you be more prone to like the X-Box if the hardware were released by an alternate manufacturer?

Who would have to be releasing the X-Box for you to take an interest in it?

There is a lot of Microsoft resentment involved in many gamers' reasons for not buying one, but that has nothing to do with my reasons. I really couldn't care less who's developing a console; if it's good, that's all I care about. I want to have fun, after all, and there's nothing that says Microsoft can't provide that.

Frankly, though, I can't imagine that I'll ever buy a X-Box. Just doesn't seem to be enough incentive.

1) It's going to be more expensive than I think a console should *ever* be.
2) The vast majority of its games are cross-platformers - hence on cheaper systems - and even its so-called 'exclusive' ones will likely be ported over to the PC, since Microsoft isn't about to give up on the PC gaming market. I have a nice PC; I'll play them there.
3) Word has it they'll be shipped with a reboot disc. I'm sorry, but what? Let me get this straight: the thing has an internal hard drive (8 GBs) and I may have to perform a full-format on it, after paying the kind of money I'd be putting down for it? IMO, it would've been better if Microsoft had used an exterior hard drive and just had it come with the system.

Those are my reasons. I don't hate Microsoft; it's useful in its own way. People who HATE Microsoft, IMO, need to get a life.

If you look at it simply. Microsoft (however loathe you are to admit it) are doing well because they pre-empted the market for GUI software all those years ago when DOS was the norm. Although people love to hate success, Bill Gates got where he was due to marketing decisions and risks that no-one else was prepared to take, as well as a few good ideas. Yes, he 'copied' ideas from other firms, but this was simply taking the best ideas and sticking them in a melting pot to create something new that the PC was lacking. Okay, so Microsoft has maybe played tough to get where they are, but a lot of people would have done the same to get to the same point as them.

I'm not saying that it's healthy for the market to have one major GUI and applications developer, it's not, but Microsoft have mainly got to where they are through hard work. There are bad things about the company, but then this can be said about most major companies. As I said, people hate success and will instantly find something wrong with it. I curse at windows sometimes, but it doesn't mean Bill Gates is evil!

Likewise, the X-Box is simply a product of Microsoft's research and development and basically their hard work. Whether you like the name or not, they've put a lot of work into this and they don't want to see it fail, just as any other console developer wants their console to be successful.

I wouldn't say I was 'anti-X-box', but I do have a healthy dislike for Micro$oft and some of their business methods. Consequently I have certain fears for the game/console industry if they do gain too much of a foot-hold.

I have not, however, ruled out buying an X-box - though it will have to offer me something totally unique that I really 'must have' and can't get anywhere else.
