anyone on 02 contract just got my phone this morning but not got a signal im in a good signal area is it due too they have not activated it yet

You have to phone up and activate i think. I am not contract but it was kinda the same thing for me. There should be a pin somehwere in the manual, with a number to phone. And voila, i think :S

Try turning the phone on.
Get a house phone and phone them and ask, or text them, their might be some kind of special services on your phone that will get through to them in another way, usually if they havent connected you yet that doesnt happen but it may be so...maybe its just your bad day. It might pop up when you turn off your phone to go bed, then when you turn it on you'll see it...who knows...
