"Sega Sonic Team announced that they will shut down the Phantasy Star Online server as soon as they discover players who are cheating the game by changing the character data with "Game Enhancers."" ~ DailyRadar.com

Again....er...what are they doing, this won't help their 'dead' reputation at all, what are they doing, there are some people who bought a Dreamcast because of this game alone, this is a bad move, obviously the 'cheaters' need to be caught, but what is the point of shuting the server down AFTER the cheaters are uncoivered, is it me or has Me. Sega lost it!

Horror Hor"ror, n. [Formerly written horrour.]

[L. horror, fr. horrere to bristle, to shiver, to tremble with cold or dread, to be dreadful or terrible; cf. Skr. h?sh to bristle.]

1. A bristling up; a rising into roughness; tumultuous movement. [Archaic]

Such fresh horror as you see driven through the wrinkled waves. --Chapman.

2. A shaking, shivering, or shuddering, as in the cold fit which precedes a fever; in old medical writings, a chill of less severity than a rigor, and more marked than an algor.

3. A painful emotion of fear, dread, and abhorrence; a shuddering with terror and detestation; the feeling inspired by something frightful and shocking.

How could this, in the sight of heaven, without horrors of conscience be uttered? --Milton.

4. That which excites horror or dread, or is horrible; gloom; dreariness.

Breathes a browner horror on the woods. --Pope.

The horrors, delirium tremens. [Colloq.]

Don't believe everything you read - here's the official statement from a US Sega representative;

Gwen Marker, Marketing Communications Manager at SEGA of America, released this statement:

"Phantasy Star Online has not been hacked. Sega has no plans to shutdown any servers in Japan, Europe or the United States for any reason. Sega reserves the right to terminate user accounts for cheating or any disruptive online behavior that upsets the natural progression of the game or the global community of Phantasy Star Online gamers."

It was only a matter of time, though I didn't expect this to come round so quickly.

{{{...what are they doing, this won't help their 'dead' reputation at all,...}}}

It isn't meant to, and what do you mean by "'dead' reputation"? Personally I think Sega's in really good shape at the moment, now that they're focusing on what they're really good at - making games.

{{{...what are they doing, there are some people who bought a Dreamcast because of this game alone, this is a bad move, obviously the 'cheaters' need to be caught, but what is the point of shuting the server down AFTER the cheaters are uncoivered, is it me or has Me. Sega lost it!}}}

I think this depends. I've yet to try out Phantasy Star Online. Is there a monthly fee to play it? Well, if not, then shutting down servers isn't as big a deal as you think; no monthly fee means that generally a *limited* server is running the game. It's not the same as PC games, such as Ultima Online, Everquest, or Asheron's Call, where there are *massive* servers, open to thousands of people at a time.

From what I understand, aren't there just four people on any given server on PSO? In the case of a four-player base, the only thing shutting down this server does is remove them from their particular game. This would be, IMO, regular procedure for UO, EQ, and AC if they wouldn't be ticking off so many players at any given time. [AC *did* shut down a server once - a massive one - due to cheating.]
