This rant is inspired by shrubber's post regarding movies..

Recently released are The Italian Job and Oceans Eleven and are both American versions of English classics, and the original versions are done no justice whatsoever. I really hate the yanks stealing our heritage. Take U-571 for example, they took an ENGLISH submarine war story and filled it with Yanks and won the war with it.

They are making a Battle of Britain film in which an American Pilot in England saves the entire country from the German fleet of planes, single handedly of course. What is next, recreating the war of the roses with Arnie fighting for Lancashire and Stallone fighting for Yorkshire.

Americans have exhausted their own history (except the bit about them killing Indians and stealing their land, that needs to be done more) and so decide to take other nation's history and Americanise it.

Ah but the original cast starred a bunch of English people who were crudely replaced by Clooney and Co.

As far as America are concerned, Hugh Grant IS the only British actor and his patronising stutter would be unfitting in a war movie. You can imagine how they would portray a British pilot in a dogfight:

"Oh flutters I almost got the blighter, now I am all befuddled"
*SMASH*
"Best leave it to the good old American's, they sure know how to fly!"

Seriously though there are plenty of brilliant English actors who could play the part brilliantly.

Yeah, I heard about the Battle of Britain one. Seriously... why? Who is it, Cruise I think... Why?!

Americans know of DOZENS of British actors, why not let one of them be the lead character, and simply portray America in a good light in the film? Isn't that enough?
