Residing at my uni hall now, which is quite nice, except that every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 8-11 (or 'til 2 on Suns) our common room is converted into a bar where deep bass music is played in addition to Justin bl00dy Timberlake. Nothing wrong with that, right? Well, the room is right underneath mine - and because of the way it's laid out, sound easily travels through from all sides (as well as from directly below).

I suppose it's nothing more than a nuisance right now, but what about nearer deadlines and late night revision before exams? Can't do that with the speakers out on full.

Wow, and the walls there are really thick too.

Haven't really exploited the connection too much yet, trying to get that Novell server thing working.

Ha ha! I bet you wish you were in main hall like me!
Except that the guy next to me plays his music so loud my sturdy Victorian doors ACTUALLY vibrate. No jokes it actually vibrates to the music. Like a nightclub but slightly louder.

Still, I love this uni internet connection, its so damn fast.

I'd expect that they'll have to stop for around exams - at my uni there was a fairly strict minimal noise policy in halls around those times.
But you can ask to make sure.

As for now? You can ask if there are empty room in the halls, and if so have them move you. Failing that you can ask to be transferred to a different halls block. Failing that too, you could demand your money back (I'd expect you'd have a strong case) and go live in rented accomodation (there'll be posters up for students with houses advertising their empty rooms, and there'll probably be a list of lots of them at the uni's accomodation/residential services room).
Or you could ask around your friends, see if they know anyone with a spare room, so you'd sort of have something in common when you moved in.

Otherwise I'm afraid you'll have to get a girlfriend to stay with or just put up with it.

But if none of that sounds appealing, try speaking to your halls manager and the residential services people anyway, they may still be able to sort something out for you.
