United States. London. Rome.
All scenes of huge powercuts, were entire grids have been shut down resulting in the loss of electricity for thousands. Faulty elctrical work you say. Coincidences. Well, my friends, I believe there is a darker reason. The governments and intelligence agencies are aware of it, I think. They are covering it up, to prevent mass panic. What we are looking at here people is an attempt by someone - terrorists or other - to catapult the world back into the Stone Age. These people are "testing the system" if you like, finding out how to shut down major grids, causing widespread panic and anarchy. Because imagine it. No power. Therefore no computers, television, radio or communication devices. Ordinary civilians will have no idea what is ahppening. Lawlessness will erupt. Chaos will rule. I'm not saying it will happen, although it might. Your thoughts - coincidence, or conspiracy?

As I have stated repeatedly, it will probably never happen. It is just something I thought I would post...

But no where has had a total nationwide black out, in fact Italy only had the blackout in certain areas because of a problem in France, and in the USA there have been power problems right back to the early nineties.

After careful consideration it can be noted that this post recieved considerably more intelligent replies than the one in Chat.

And Bell, the telephones wouldn't work because this wouldn't be a normal powercut, but an entire shut down of all electricity.

But I'm not saying it will happen, I just thought about mentioning it as it sounded interesting, and would be good for a plot in a conspiracy novel.

My thanks to all those who replied.

I think it's more a case of a mass neglect in maintenance and upgrading across most modern countries, despite the ever rising demand for electricity.

Terrorism is a frankly stupid idea, what's the point if nobody knows it's terrorism ? Sure, Governments can enforce a blackout of the story, but they have no control over such people as Al Jazeera, or the internet.

And last time I looked the telephones worked in a powercut.

Am I the only one who likes the idea of the world being plunged into a prolonged non-technological darkness wherein the everyday tick-tock grinds to a halt? What would everyone do? - Panic, kill, see themselves for who they really are?

I blame single mothers or immigants (sp) for the blackouts.
