A) Get Past a Stuck Point - sounds silly but that is what we'll call them. They can't do this boss or complete that puzzle so they stick in a code and the boss has been triumphantly defeated!(Or so the game thinks)
b) Top add more fun, with older games not so much nowadays people would do something to the charachter to make them funnier or better, to add a little extra something. Rare did it with Banjo with bottles Bonuses! But we saw it more in the times of the Mega Drive and SNES With Mario etc.
C) Because they are unhappy with the game the way it is. With very, very basic games with very little options and mods like Theme Park World for example people crave to add another slice of pie to the game, so file modifications of codes or whatever make the game more exciting.
In the end is all bores down to excitement, people want to have FUN playing games and if a code or a cheat makes the game more fun then they'll put it in! It doesn't happen on such a scale nowadays because with games like Banjo and Perfect Dark, people don't want more from the game but having said that the other side of the arguement is that once the game is finished putting cheats in increases the life! Maybe people want to get the most for their money, but surely the pure satisfaction of completing a game by not cheating is enough...no, sadly it seems more people would rather be able to describe the final cut scene to a friend than have any self satisfaction what-so-ever!
I am not putting 'cheaters' down, but I think that if they actually got a taste for pure success they would keep going at games. Neither am I saying 'cheaters' are bad gamers, I just think that maybe they need to look more closely at a different genre if the one they tend to buy is not interesting, or challenging enough!
We have all cheated, I have never seen so many 9's in all my life when I got all the bonuses in GTA_UK but what I am saying is 'Is cheating the answer?' Not to the meaning of life or anything like that but is it the answer to the extra excitment we crave from a game. I think with the current 'To Be Released' games we will see less cheating because of the excitment that games like Banjo-Tooie MGS2 and Shenmue offer. But having said that Shenmue was short, isn't there a way you can play a different role or have a different haircut....No?!!! No!!!!!!!!! So I suppose cheating is the last resort...it will be until you find another way!
