My surprised face... :|
He's done some great things for the club (...as a player), but it's a completely different ball-game when it comes to working miracles as the same clubs manager.
I can't think - of the top of my head - of a single player who has done the job as both a player and then a manager for the same club...?
That's what we were all expecting with Kevin Keegan as England manager - and look at what happened there! :S
He's made some good signings over the past year, and has brought some talented individuals into the side, after the losses of Teddy Sheringham and Sol Campbell. But the results just haven't been coming in, even though Kanouté's been scoring goals...
It may seem a bit "soon" with several new faces in the team, but really, Hoddle was never gonna get the team anywhere near where the board would like them to be.
What they need, now, is someone who can pick them up and carry them upwards, back towards the top (...but not they very-top, obviously!). Just like the brilliant job David Moyes has done with Everton.
I think it comes down to the fact he was a legend at Spurs as a player, and they kept him on too long thinking that he could turn things round with his knowlege.
One word: Ha!
