The headset makes the game more lifelike in a way. It is crucial for talking tactics in FPS games and is obviously used for trash-talking arrogant Yanks.
Obviously there's the quick voice messages you can send, and without a headset, you're unlikely to build up a long friends list, as nobody will be able to get to know you.

Maybe but the cost of a routor (sp?) plus a wireless thingy (due to xbox being in bedroom) would setme back £100 before I've entered that different world.
