But if you get on the trial and it works you will keep it. The first people that get signed up are just getting the product early, just like on XBox Live or the PS2 online trials. Also downloads will probably be 120k/s or maybe a tad more.
The only problem with testing it is the fact that I will want it even more when the trial runs out. 8 weeks goes pretty fast these days.

If they know who you are then yes what they should be right, as they had to do checks on your line when you got 512k so they should have a record.
Its not slow but having it for 15 months you get use to the speed. The first few weeks or months its amazing speed from going from a 56K modem that did 4.5k/s to 512K ADSL that does 60k/s. Now I am use to it I would like to get a faster connection.

You should as ISPs still taking orders for 1mb can put users on 1mb. BT have already done a internal trial so they know its working. Also to get 1mb you have to be with in 3.5km of the exchange. 512K could be up to 5.5km and with extended reach it can now be something like 6km or 6.5km. But 1mb has to be less than 3.5km as its running on ADSL and not RADSL like 512K. Also the line quality has to be alot better as well with a woosh test of 45db or less, think that 512K can be up to 60db now. So hopefully your ok to get 1mb, same with me as 512K is getting too slow now :).
The contract was for 12 months so I I dom't think its possible to switch to another ISP at this moment in time. The phone should be up and working later today so I will contact BT and see what they have to say on the matter.

Yep very cheap. Signed up for there upgrade so should get on the trial on Oct 6th.
Freeola 1mb and 2mb isnt using what 512k ADSL uses at the moment, it uses DataStream where as 512K is using IPStream. I have heard that with DataStream slots on the exchange are limited and contention comes in alot sooner. An example of this is that Bulldog who provide 1mb and 2mb have had problems as people on there 2mb are only getting 1.7mb and not what they paid for. The 1mb that BT are trialing in a few weeks is IPStream and will be the same as the 512K service but with a 1mb download speed instead of the 512K.
At the moment if you changed ISPs you could migrate to Pipexs 512k service which is £23.44 and then upgrade to the 1mb service afterwards. At the moment you can not migrate to a service which isnt the same speed as the current service.
I think Pipex will probably be one of the cheapest around as current BT charge an ISP £13 + vat for a 512K line and Pipex make just over £8 profit from that per month. With 1mb BT charge £23 + vat which would make you think that Pipex would put around £8-10 on top of that like others who were charging £39.99. But Pipex offer 1mb for £28.95 which is only £1.93 profit a month.
As for other isp's - try Pipex. Their 1meg is £29 a month - cheaper than BT's 512k!
