So what does the near future of gaming hold?
Not a lot of new ideas. More power generally means better and faster graphics and moer characters on screen at a time.
I know that online gaming is only beginning to take off and the arcades are filling with new ideas but generally, household gaming isn't moving at the pace it was a few months ago.
So what does the not-so-near future hold?
Table top computer games!!!
Yes, a black box (about the size of a monopoly board) with a dome on top! Controllers can be plugged into it, there's a connection to networks etc, and some sort of disk drive too but what will make this new is that people will see the game in this dome, like they are controlling little toy models. Inside the dome, characters and backgrounds will be diplayed by...
HOLOGRAMS!
For those of you who've seen the original Starwars, think back to when they were first on the millenium falcon and the droids were playing some sort of chess game with Chewbackka.
You won't need a TV for it and it'll be like people are actually inside this dome.
OK, so First person shooters won't really work on it but multiplayer beat em ups will be brilliant. You could also get a gun controoller and shoot the these little people/objects, from any angle you choose!
Games like the sims would work quite nicely too.
We have the technology to make it, but we haven't found out how to make them cheap. Still, 20 or so years, families will sit down together to play:
Pub Brawlers 3
Super Sniper 2
Virtual Scalectrix (think about it, it wouldn't brake down on you!)
Gladiators style games could be made.
Wrestling and boxing games would work well.
It's all in the future...
I suppose by then most of us will have "grown out of" games by then...

I dont think that anyone taking any interest in the Future of Gaming is needed around here...
Whatever happened to all day Pub openings?
I like the thought of holograms.
I remember one Sega game in the arcade years ago, in which you could travel in time or something, that was almost a little hologram.
The game was too limited though, so it never really took off.
Anyone remember that?
If only Ali had read it a few weeks ago...
