I have setup a small office network for my 2 pc's, they are now joined as you would expect with an ethernet cable. However, when my older PC is switched on it makes the newer PC start up AOL and connect to the internet. Is there any way to stop this happening?

I would like to be able to share the internet connection between the 2 PC's, will this require both computers to have modems?

Look through all the AOL settings to see if you can disable dial on demand. This is why people shouldn't use AOL, they can never get any help when it goes wrong :O/

Right clicking on the dial on demand thing doesnt work, you right click and then select properties and nothing happens. I dont have the two little monitors icon, is there a way to enable it?

It will probably be in the AOL on demand connection. As I dont have AOL I dont know if you have the 2 small monitors in the taskbar that show up like a network connection? If you do you will see how long you have been connected and data transfer. You should see a properties button. In the properties theres a Advanced tab and the options should be in there.

After getting the internet connection sharing to work i still cant get the other computer to stop trying to start AOL. I have been through the built in XP help and support centre, but i just cant find the "Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet" check box.

It says to Click the network connection on which Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is enabled. My network connections consist of:

Dial up

Aol dial on demand

Network bridge

1934 connection 2
Local area connection
1934 connection
Network Bridge (network bridge)

I have looked at the properties of all of the connections under the network bridge heading, but i cant find the Advanced tab that it speaks of which has the Internet Connection Sharing options.

Maybe theres a setting on the old PC to make sure theres always an internet connection. When messing around with the XBox and XBox Live I use Internet Connect Sharing(ICS). On the properties on the network device or ISP settings there was an option to share the internet, and also allow other devices to start up the internet. I just had a look on mine and on the settings for the internet theres a ICS setting that says dial up when another connection is trying to access the internet. Maybe this is ticked so that the older PC dials up the internet as soon as its established a network with the new PC.
