I've heard Captain Beefheart before, was a little turned away, it was... strangely listenable, but well, I really just wanted to hear some damn amazing music, instead of just the fantastical lyrics.
But Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention seem to have this amazing intelligence to the themes the songs are based on. All the little things that people get worried and upset about are turned right on their head. And apart from that, they're great fun to listen to too, jazz/blues style music, occasionally more rocky. It's great fun. If there's anyone in the know about him, anything you'd recommend?
It's fantastic stuff, and it makes me realise how completely up their own tubular bells current music is.
