Okay, when i boot up, an error message appears in the Windows Graphial Interface saying "Cannot find "msinfo.exe" (or one of its omponents" blah blah blah. You know the rest, I think, plus I can't remember the rest. I have found this file that it is searching for at startup. Well actually, Ihaven't. I've found the REFERENCE to it. The reference is in the third line of the win.ini file in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. The first few lines of win.ini read as follows:

[windows]
load=
run=C:\WINDOWS\..\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\ MICROS~1\MSINFO\msinfo.exe
NullPort=None
UninstallPath=C:\
device=EPSON Stylus C62 Series,EPIJNL60,LPT1:

See the reference to msinfo in tehe "run" line? It doesn't have the space in teh middle in teh actual file. I had to put that there for this bloody word length thing on SRs boards. Anyway, I have tried to delete theat referene, but leaving the run= line intact, and that corrupts the registry, and registry checker restores the last one and hence it comes back.

So, how do I clear this problem? I think I have to reinstall. Is this possible via the Windows Graphical Interface? If not, i know how to do it via the ommand prompt.

Thanks in advance for any help

There IS a file on my PC called MSInfo32.exe, but I dunno about it if it is the corret one.

1. What version of Windows is this?

2. Try removing the load= from the line above

3. Change the path to run=C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\ MICROS~1\MSINFO\msinfo.exe (again, remove the space)

I'm not sure why it would need to run msinfo.exe on startup..

I think you need to delete the WHOLE line, including the run= bit

This is some sort of spyware thing by the looks of it. There is a long list of instructions on how to deal with it here:
