It's not often that we get silence in movies these days, there's usually some kind of background music, or sound effects going on, but on Saturday night I watched most of the 'The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly'.

In this this film there are several occasions in which the film is completely silent. These moments seemed to add to the atmosphere of the scene so much more than having any music played in the background.

The silence somehow managed to say so much more than any conversation or background music would have done.

Then when you did get music, it was surely the best music ever used in a Western!

Fantastic!

So any other movie moments in which silence says more than any amount of words ever could?

Peter Sellers' "face to camera" moment in 'The Party' was possibly one of the most side splitting movie moments for me, Leslie Neilsen also has that effect in some of his movies.

As for music, The Matrix and Blade are two of the best movies I've ever experienced which managed to combine the music with the action in just the right way.
