Can anyone read cookies, as in understand what they say and how to get passwords from them ??

Cookies aren't globally encrytpted - the data within them can be encrypted by the shop that sets them but the standard for a cookie is just a plaintext value containing key:value pairs which are easily readable.

Yes... Like in outwar they store stuff in your cookies and if you edited them you can get whatever you wanted... although the cookies are probably encrypted really good now.

When I say difficult, what I really mean to say is, if the cookie wasn't set by you, it's impossible.

It's easy to read your own cookies...

However, reading other people's cookies with your own website is more difficult.

Why would you want to read cookies? I would just eat them if I was your before the cookie monster nicks them.

It's impossible to read cookies, unless you know how they're encoded. Even then as Candyfloss says, the information is rarely of any use.

What do you want to do that for?

Information in cookies is stored in plain text, but any security conscious site will not store customer information in the cookie, but rather a unique identifying string which relates to a record held on the site's server. Note that if it's a session cookie, you won't find a file on your hard disk like you would a time-based cookie.

They may be encrypted and stuff. They're all different.
