I was looking for something new to do with my playstation last summer, I had played all the great games such as MetalGearSolid, GranTurismo, ISS pro, and the latest WWF game. However I still wasn’t satisfied, that’s when a friend of mine Liam introduced me to light gun games!
I had played games like TimeCrisis and House of The Dead down the arcade but had never thought my humble playstation was capable of recreating this arcade experience at home.
After seeing the fun Liam was having I went out immediately and bought a light gun and Die Hard Trilogy. Soon I was up and away blasting away the bad guys on my humble playstation, and fun it is too! For those who have never played a lightgun game, you really should they’re great fun.
The playstation is lucky in that it has loads of great lightgun games available for it. Namco particularly have converted their numerous Arcade hits such as TimeCrisis and PointBlank 1 & 2 for the playstation.
TimeCrisis is immense fun, and is the most realistic gun game available for the playstation, luckily for us it plays just like the arcade original.
As for Point Blank 1 & 2, these are also great fun, in fact the emphasis of these games is on fun, as the graphics are more cartoony than realistic. My favourite thing about the PointBlank games is that you can link 2 lightguns up to the playstation and play simultaneously against a friend, just like in the arcade!
Special Reserve are currently bundling games such as TimeCrisis and Die Hard trilogy together with a lightgun for a discounted price. Namco also plan to release some new lightgun games over the coming months, namely PointBlank3 and TimeCrisis Project Titan. So theres really no excuse not to be excited!

Point Blank3 is due for release on 15th March
Time Crisis Project Titan is also due for a UK release on 6th April.

Hopefully TimeCrisis2 will eventually turn up on the PS2, the original playstation couldnt handle the 2 player linkup (hence TimeCrisis:Project Titan). However there has been no news of a conversion yet, probably because there are to few people with PS2s who also have a lightgun. However the sales forecast for the PS2 looks good, and so hopefully it will hit our shores at Christmas or early next year.
Point Blank, Time Crisis and Project Titan are all good games. The only thing that bothered me was the lack of a two-player option on the Time Crisis series. Any one know if two player versions are likely to arise either for the ps1 or ps2? Or indeed any other similar games with a 2 player mode?
