if there was indeed an afterlife, it would be a blink between our lives and the afterlife, because while you're dead you're not conscious of anything, so it's like being asleep - you're there for a long time but you switch off, so it seems like you've just blinked.
in a way, you resemble being asleep to a screensaver on a PC. when something happens, like a loud noise, or in this case a mouse or key being activated, you "wake up".
And another thing, we wouldn't fear death if we had no emotional connections with anyone else, because we care too much about the people we love. it's the thought of putting your loved one's through the emotional strife and greivance, which could indeed push them to follow the same path as death. if you had no friends, no contacts, and no job, suicide is a very viable option. But as i say, it's emotions that keep us alive, but they can also kill us.
right now i'm listening to muse / showbiz and it's kinda saying this.
i.e: "pushing us into self destruction" or "trying to please you for too long"
Of course, I don't know enough to be able to judge whether that's realistic.
I'd like to believe in an afterlife. I think I would anyway.
Takes the edge off death.
Though forever seems like a hell of a long time to hang around.
But do I?
Without my own experience I'll probably just try to rationalise, without knowing anything either way.
