I posted this in FOG Chat by mistake (Sorry Staff if you could delete that post it would be great)

Anyway.....

------------------

When applying for jobs you normally need a CV & Cover Letter.

CV I have no problem with and update on a regulaer basis.

Cover Letter is where im stuck!

it needs to be tailored to the job spec, but it is difficult.

Anyone offer any advice on what to include when approaching to write one?

Thanks

Neo.

I myself would prefere not be to sucked up to but I don't know the way the industry works. A cleverly described compliement maybe the answer but Like I said I really don't know. Thses are all just opinions.

State what skills you have and past experiances. Basically do what Timmargh said before. That sounds like a good idea. Present things in some sort of order. Why you would like to work there, past experiances, what you can offer, skills you have. That sounds like there is some sort of order and flow to it.

Yeh im scouring the web at the moment.

Looking for a decent structure, ive found some really poor examples and ones which say that they are good examples but they looks like too much sucking up!

maybe thats what is required...

Talk about how eager you are to do the job, how you like the prospect of learning new skills and enjoy working both independetly and with others.

That should see you through.

You're bound to be able to find examples somewhere on the Internet - have a search.

It's an IT Engineer Position (similar to what I work as at the moment but didn't need a cover letter for the current role)

I guess the best bet is to give examples of my experiances and provide details of what I can offer them as an individual.

It's just putting that into words which is the problem.

Any chance of letting us know what job yopu're looking for as if someone has appied for a similar one then they might be able to help you further. I myself have no idea but with more infomation more knowledge(sp, I think it's wrong and so a tad on the ironic side of things) can be given. Every little helps or so a popular supermarket chain would have us believe.

I used to put stuff like ...

"I am applying for this job because it something I am very interested in and feel that I would be good for you company because . As you can see from my CV I had experience which I think will stand me in good stead to tackle the position I am applying for."

Or something like that. Don't be shy: tell them how great you think you are!

I've applied for six jobs in my life and I've been offered every one!
