How can online gaming be the future of gaming, when companies like BT charge for local calls. Im sure you are all aware of Americans, and their free local calls. Sega, and many other games companies are releasing all of these great online games, and yet they still charge people to go through BT internet, or the 3-2-1 system. I have played an American version of Quake 3, (still playing) and I get the option to select my ISP. Ofcourse, this was excellent, having NTL. My point is, Sega & Co, should consider making a point to telecommunication companies, and asking them if they can supply a free toll number dedicated to gamerz. And maybe give a percentage sale of a particular online game to the companies.
While everyone is getting excited over Broardband connection on consoles, stop for a minute and think. It is expensive, it is not really worth getting it for games. I play online games on a 56k modem, and get a ping of around 170-200ms.
So we should make a Nation wide petition, opposing charges of local calls. Ladies and gentlemen, the revolution of free online gaming starts here..... (ok, maybe thats a bit over the top)

But this is a serious point, even the Governement are concerned over the lack of broardband connection in the UK. I cant understand why we have to pay to access e-commerce sites, where we are paying for their Advertisement, answer me that?

It will in time. Hopefully, as far as my PS2 is concerned anyway, Sony will realise that not everyone has or can afford a particular broadband supplier (BT, say) and will make their software configurable to acommodate various services.

I have ordered the 512kb connection modem, but what I was saying was about consoles. PCs seem to have more freedom when it comes to ISP choice. Any yet, consoles are more linear... this has to change.

Or at the petitiononline site (URL would be deleted, but is obvious).

NTL are offering broadband access (512kb/sec) for £20 per month - so the price is not necessarily high. But they have far from nationwide coverage.

I read that and I thought: "Most Americans aren't aware of Europe, though."

Anyway, you are right that it's unfair that we are getting charged for online access, but this is changing. There are plenty of companies out there offering 0800 net access, eg claranet and so on.
Even the BT surftime sounds a pretty good deal to me, eithger £5 or £15 a month for unlimited off peak, I can't remember which.

What is unfair though, is the Dream Arena. Rather too pricy and being forced to use the same ISP at 1p a min is just plain evil.
