Does anyone else feel that with trips to the cinema becoming less popular and the gaming industry is growing all the time,Is it the end for hollywood Actors and Actresses?

I think that with computer graphics getting ever more realistic , could could computer boffins be the new stars. With the upcoming Final Fantasy Movie which has state of the art graphics and a great storyline yet the cost is far lower than that of a blockbuster such as Titanic.

So I really do think that the Tom Cruise's and Julia Roberts of this world are going to soon be at the jobcentre
as the new voice actors hich will be needed will be casted because of thier ability not looks.

What does anyone else think.

Last years games were second only to Music... selling more numbers, and making more moeny than movies/vids/DVDs/etc...

Although I doubt that CG actors will ever replace real people for starring roles...

If nothing else, people find it harder to fancy a computer generated personality than a real person... even if your never going to meet Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruize, Ruwan McGegor, etc.. its still a more realistic fantasy than that of Mario :)

CG seem still to be part of the novelty area of movies, and will hopefully in time move to being less of a selling point, and more of a medium enhancment tool...

I don't agree with the comment about what will people who've never played the game want to see the film for. They would have never made this film if having played the game was essential to understabd the film i mean people still went to see mortal kombat(although i don't know how many).

The film industry as a whole is aimed at people of all ages while gaming is mainly aimed at teenage boys.

I don't see our top actors heading to the nearest jobcentre in the near future, nor do I believe that they are casted for their good looks, as an actor you need the ability to perform not just to look pretty!

I maybe wrong in saying so but, in my opinion no amount of computer graphics could replace characters that have been played by our truly gifted all time greats, such as Bruce Willis, Nicholas Cage and Mel Gibson to name a few.

With saying that, I must also add that I still have utmost respect for Buzz and his pals (but like I said, they're all just computer graphics)!!

Japanese Game Company Investing $100 Million In Movie

The Japanese video-game company Square Inc. has spent $100 million to turn its popular video game Final Fantasy into a theatrical movie due for release next year, the Wall Street Journal reported today (Monday). "It's a big gamble. We're confident that we'll succeed, but if we fail, it could do major damage to us as a company and Japan as a whole," Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the game and director of the movie, told the newspaper. Alec Baldwin, Donald Sutherland and James Woods provide the voices of what the company calls its "synthespians," computer-generated characters who look almost human.

Now the good thing here is that Titanic was well overhyped with its $200 million budget, so a lot of people were very disappointed with the movie. Final Fantasy has been quite well underhyped if that's the right word, but still very expensive to produce. And its appeal could be quite limited, you've got the FF games players who'll want to see it, you've got the Sci-Fi fans who'll want to see it, but the general cinema goer? What are they to make of it if they've never played the game?

Titan AE did well at the box office, that took $75 million to make, and I think it took much more than that in the end looking at the box office figures, but that was well advertised, and hyped in the press as 'the first film of its kind', so Final Fantasy will have to offer something very unique to get the press bubbling.

Personally, I think and hope it will be a hit because I've always loved the games and the philosophy behind them, but as for this being the future of filming, unless they can find a way of making FMV of the same quality without the man hours involved that it currently takes, celluloid will be the major format for the time being.

FMV's strongest suit is that it can do anything, it is only limited by the film maker's imagination, but with computer graphics and celluloid still making a strong and relatively cost effective partnership, it will be a long while before FMV replaces them a feast for the cinema goers' eyes.
