I read The Alchemist last night in a couple of hours and today I'm reading Animal Farm. That's the only way I can read books, none of this farting about with bookmarks and leaving it a week before you go back to it. That's why I can't read Lord of the rings - I have to be able to finish it a few hours after I start reading it, or I lose interest. Anway, I read the Alchemist and today I'm reading Animal Farm. What shortish books would you recommend for a quick book blast?

We seem to be on a sci-fi tip (a bit), so:

William Gibson - Neuromancer
Jeff Noon - Vurt

Also:

Douglas Coupland - All Families Are Psychotic
Kurt Vonnegut - Breakfast Of Champions.

Not SHORT short like the Camus, but very easy to read.

I find the best Sci Fi books can be found in the
"Science Fiction Masterworks" series on Amazon

it's a collection of the best books from the past 100 years or so, and all of them that I purchased, bar one, were superb.

Notable examples :

I am Legend - Richard Matheson
A Scanner Darkly - Phillip K Díck
Gateway - Frederik Pohl
The Forever War - Joe Haldeman (reminds me of the halo story)

the one I thought was pants was The fifth head of cerberus by gene wolfe. drawn out and tedious.

i saw a very moving tv version of that. read the book if thats what you want to do, but i mightent add that you should find it on video afterwards and watch that. i very much doubt that it will disappoint

my favourite PKD novel is A SCANNER DARKLY. deep, twisted, humorous, mind bending ... GREAT

I got minority report which came with a collection of short stories. all of them were damn good, he was a gifted writer (and serious drug taker)

Hmmm, Sheepy said he read Animal Farm for his highers.

He got an A.

He say it's a good book. With symbolism. Which is good. So I might read it.

That or Flowers For Algernon. Which Azul recommended.

The Great Gatsby is pretty short, although I can't see the problem with popping a bookmark in overnight.
