I've had my DVD player for just over 2 months now, and although I own a relatively small amount of DVD's, I still find myself watching at least one of them again, every week. Last night, it was the stunt-tastic Mission Impossible 2, which I’m now on to my third time of watching. This would never have happened with VHS, granted, I don’t have a VHS player in my room, but even so, there’s one downstairs which is just as accessible. Why do DVD’s encourage watchability that hasn’t existed before ? Is it just they are so simple to use ? No rewinding, perfect pause, crystal clear sound, does this always entice you to whack in the disc and hit play ? Or is it the extras which can make the film different every time ? Additional commentaries and deleted scenes mean you could only have seen half the content of the disc, even when you’ve finished watching the whole film !

Your'e spot on there i never used to buy films on vhs but now i find myself buying 2 or 3 dvd films a week, just everything about dvd is better and if youv'e got a nice surround sound system then i'd reccomend getting some music dvd's,a live performance looks+sounds brilliant thanks to the dolby digital encoding(obviously this has nothing to do with it looking good)although some dvd is only dd2.0 but a 5.1 disc is the business!

Yep, I find I watch my DVD films a lot more than the VHS ones, purely because they are so accessible, so easy to use, in fact all of the advantages you listed in your post djs2k, it was spot on.

This also seems to encourage me to keep going out and buying more and more of them too, which just exacerbates my couch potato-ness.

And anyway, when was the last time a DVD player chewed up one of your DVD's? They are just so much easier all round.
