The same applies to football matches whether they be held at Southampton or in Serbia, if you stop the racist 'fans' from entering the stadium then yes you achieve a more racism free zone but the problem dosnt go away.
Education at grass roots level is the only way forward, stopping known racist people from entering sports arenas in advance is clearly a good thing but it most certainly does not tackle the problem in the long term, younger generations of racist persons are just waiting in the wings to take their place... its a vicious circle if all that is done is racist people are banned from sports arenas... this will not cure the problem of racism in sport by any stretch of the imagination it will only serve as to merely try and fool the TV watching public into believing that racism is under control and our streets are subsequently safer when ofcourse this couldnt be further from the truth.
Racism has always seemed to be trend based and like most other things it comes and goes, almost like a peak effect where it slowly boils up then overflows into an explosive media provoked frenzy eventually leading to mass rioting, perhaps currently we are experiencing a much welcomed lull in racism on the sports field but inevitably this will change before too long especailly as the new football season is just a matter of weeks old, as there are simply too many naive idiots who appear all too eager to bring racism back into the public eye just as we think we are rid of it.
Ok sure we can all be educated and told what is acceptable and what isnt acceptable, i mean a black man can say 'im proud to be black' and other black people will applaud him, however if a white man said 'im proud to be white' he is brandished as a racist, why is this? attitudes need to change before any giant leaps can be taken i fear.
We as joe public only hear what we are told and see what we are shown unless we ofcourse are directly involved in front line and experience racism first hand (and im sure some of us do daily in one form or another) racism will be with us for as long as there are uneducated knuckleheads and sadly i cannot see that changing any time soon.
Prevention is always better than cure, im not sure racism can be fully prevented tho if you see my angle.
