&CharacterEntities;
Characters such as the $, “, & etc. cannot just be “typed” into html. Character entities basically just replace characters that won't appear in the browser, for example, if they are used in the coding. They are also useful because you can just type in the entity, if the character you want isn't on your keyboard, e.g the € sign.
All you have to do is type in the entity code and it will appear as whatever character it corresponds to. Some common entities are listed below.

“ quotation mark '
‘ apostrophe €

£ pound sterling sign ¢
