&CharacterEntities;

Characters such as the $, “, & etc. cannot just be “typed” into html. Character entities basically just replace characters that won't appear in the browser, for example, if they are used in the coding. They are also useful because you can just type in the entity, if the character you want isn't on your keyboard, e.g the € sign.

All you have to do is type in the entity code and it will appear as whatever character it corresponds to. Some common entities are listed below.

< < less than
> > greater than
 no-break space
¡ ¡ inverted exclamation mark
¿ ¿ inverted question mark
" “ quotation mark
' ‘ apostrophe
€ € euro
£ £ pound sterling sign
¢ ¢ cent sign
¤ ¤ general currency sign
¥ ¥ Yen sign
¦ ¦ broken (vertical) bar
§ § section sign
© © copyright sign
® ® registered sign
° ° degree sign
± ± plus/minus sign
² ² superscript two
³ ³ superscript three
¬ not sign
¶ paragraph sign
& & ampersand
¼ ¼
½ ½
¾ ¾

As you can see each entity code begins with a (&) and ends with a (;). Then all you have to do is to remember each name ;)

There are also entity numbers but I decided not to include them as they are a bit harder to remember.

Summary

=All character entities begin with a (&) and end with a (;)=
=There are different names for each character=
=Character entities can be names or numbers =

Useful list, just to add something from my own mediocre knowledge, pressing control alt 4 gives the € symbol (on XP at least)
