Ok, I'm not a getdotted customer 'yet', but I had a few worries about the hosting if I bought a domain. If I use freeola to have the domain hosted, does that mean I have to dial up freeola whenever I want to upload to the ftp server?

Also, with this whole cgi script thing, is that ANY cgi script or just one's special reserve allow? Oh and one more thing are there any bandwidth constrictions I should worry about?

Thanks alot for replying,

You do have to dial up to Freeserve to upload you Web Page.

Which is although is only the cost of a local call, did initally annoy mesince I was a Free Time cunstomer...

However I found I generally ended up designing all my site locally and uploading the whole thing in one go... which if dine in the evening costs about 30pence...

Any CGI script you like can be used... there help line servce helps out as well if you have any difficulties... and there pretty good too! :)

Dunno... I dont think there are any restrictions given...

Apart from being very cheap... there really arnt any hidden cosst with GetDotted, no small print scams or anything like that... Its pretty much the cheapest UK service I've found... and they dont force you to stick their banner ads on your web pages either! :)

By the way, you'll have to dial up to any server, no matter who's hosting, unless you get yourself a static IP address and set up your own web server, but then you have to protect it :-)

For the record, about 28000 sites get defaced or hacked every DAY.

Check out www.alldas.de. They keep an up to the minute list of a lot of sites that get defaced.

You will have to set up a Freeola account to access the FTP server, and you can only access this server via the Freeola DU connection, using a modem or dial up ISDN.

Bit of a nightmare for those with broadband connections, especially if you want to update frequently or post large files.
