Ok, I have to admit that I know nothing about broadband and with the imminent arrival of the boradband/Hdd combo from Sony I think it's time I find out.
I know that it allows faster data transfer (3 mb/sec!), but what can I use it for and what do I need??

Help anyone!

I won't be satisfied until I have a 10 Terrabit link to the internet.

And I want it to be free. :-)

Not sure about the the 3Mb/second though.

NTL currently offer cable-modem access, and that's 512Kb/sec. Multi-megabyte links are currently very expensive.

Currently, I'd say a cable or ADSL connection, and some kind of browser. Basically it means better download speeds than your usual 56K home modem. So it will make downloading music and video (or live feed) a more realistic option. It also means better online gaming. Over a 56K modem you have a definite disadvantage when playing against people with a better connection.

Hopefully it will also mean more access to user created levels, skins, mods etc. and even some user written programs/demos. At the moment I tend to get these kind of things from the PC Gamer DVD, rather than spending hours downloading stuff.
